Verna Vogel’s abstract works are intricate studies of place built from richly layered acrylic paint, thread and stitched elements. Referring to her process as “automatic stitching”, Verna uses her sewing machine to create an aesthetic which is informed and developed through peripheral and subconscious sensory input, without conscious judgement. She has developed a graceful, meandering visual language, at once delicate and bold, which reflects her own meditative aspect of our collective human experience.
Many thanks to Christine Klassen, Hilary Knutson and Mike Binzer
